Parshat Terumah

Shabbat Begins 5:25

From Our Director
A picture is worth a thousand words!  I'm always smiling behind the camera as I watch how engaged our yeladim are in everything they do!  From parrots on their heads, to pajamas and two different shoes, to the ruach of singing and dancing, and experiencing the fun of percussion and sounds, our days are filled with excitement and discovery.
I was so proud of our yeladim at how they shared the joy of being in our Yeshivah with our guests from Kulanu during President's Week.  Our children were so kind and reached out to make new friends.  They greeted their returning visitors with cheers.  All our families can be very proud of the wonderful ways our children interacted with others.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Women's League for sponsoring our special programs this month, The Parrot Rebbe and George, the Drum Guy.  Through your dedicated and tireless efforts, we are able to enrich our curriculum and provide wonderful new experiences for our children to enjoy.  Thank you from our "lev" to yours!
Enjoy these pictures as much as we do!
Shabbat Shalom!

Rosh Chodesh Reading

yomh

In addition to all of the special Rosh Chodesh Adar activities, Morah Betty and Morah Lisa read stories in each of the Lev Chana classrooms. The four year old nurseries and the kindergartens heard Somebody and the Three Blairs by Marilyn Tolhurst and the three year old nurseries heard The Very Noisy Night by Diane Hendry.  These monthly visits mark Rosh Chodesh as a special day and serve as yet another way to promote literacy.

The Parrot Rebbe

In honor of Shabbat Shira, the children and teachers of Lev Chana were treated to a unique visit from a man who calls himself the "Parrot Rebbe". He came with a variety of beautiful parrots who entertained us all. The children learned about the story of the birds who ate the "mun" that Datan and Aviram threw out on Shabbat morning in the desert. They also learned about the concept of Hakarat Hatov, showing thankfulness, to the birds for preventing a "chilul hashem" and embarrassment to Moshe Rabeinu. As an enhancement to learning this story the parrots came to visit! You can see from the pictures how exciting and hands on their visit was. It gave the children a chance to see birds up close. Many of the brave children even held a bird on their heads! We would like to thank Women's League for sponsoring this wonderful program.

Hosting Guests From Kulanu

During President's week the children of Lev Chana once again fulfilled the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim by hosting guests in their classrooms. It was nice to see the friends who we met in December and some new ones, too. All of the children enjoyed playing and learning together. We would like to thank the SKA students who joined us in this special mitzvah

Topsy Turvy Day!

The first day of Rosh Chodesh Adar was a little bit different at Lev Chana! It was Topsy Turvy Day. Everyone came to school with a variety of silly or funny additions to their regular clothing. Some children had backwards and inside out clothing. Others wore pajamas, different shoes, funny hats, and even bathing suits over their clothes! There was a lot of laughter in the building! The day helped us usher in the month of Adar and the spirit of "mishenichnas Adar marbim b'simcha".

Rosh Chodesh Adar Chagigot

On Wednesday, February 24, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Adar, the children enjoyed lively music chagigot with their music teachers, Morot Karen and Tzila. The children sang Purim songs and danced to Purim music. It is always special to go to the SKA gym and join the children from the other classes. Our chagigot marked Rosh Chodesh Adar as a fun and festive day.
Art From The Heart of Lev Chana

In honor of Presidents' Day the nursery children made their own flags based on "Three Flags" by Jasper Johns. Instead of painting the flags as a wind blown banner, Jasper Johns transformed it into a rigid three dimensional painting. The kindergarten children painted flags based on the neo-expressionist Shanoor, who painted the flag challenging the mind to see it in a new way.
Now that Chodesh Adar is upon us, the focus in art is Purim. The four year nursery and kindergarten children welcomed the month by focusing on the symbolism of Mazal Adar Dagim. The four year olds drew fish which look silly swimming in our pretend fish tank. The kindergarten children made 3-D pictures of the "under the sea" variety.
The kindergarten children are all working on their Megillot. In art, the children made Persian Art pictures of repeat patterns that will be used as covers for their Megillot. The children were reminded that the Purim story took place in Shushan Town which was known as Persia for a time, but is now Iran.

A Visit From the Drum Man

On Thursday, February 24, a new visitor came to Lev Chana. We had a wonderful time with George Hooks, the Drum Man. The children learned about different sounds and had a lot of fun trying them out! They played games using sticks, drums, and cowbells. After talking about raashanim and the different ways we can make sounds, the Drum Man's visit was very interesting. We would like to say thank you to Women's League for sponsoring yet another fantastic day at Lev Chana.
