Parshat Shelach
Shabbat Begins 8:11 pm

From our Director
Boy, does time fly when you're having fun!  We packed so much into the school year.  Our yeladim have grown so much in so many ways since September.  The yeladim have grown physically, socially, and emotionally.  They have thrived learning Torah and have been inspired by their Morot.  Our yeladim exhibit beautiful Midot.  It is our pleasure to share with you what we've learned!  Our end of year celebrations and graduations are a fitting way to celebrate our accomplishments.  We hope you enjoyed our end of year celebrations.  We loved having you!  Your children have been in the loving care of wonderful Morot who are as excited about their progress as you are!  I thank them for their love, caring, creativity, sensitivity, and tremendous dedication to our children!
As the long summer stretches before us, take time to enjoy wonderful conversations with your children.  Kick back and read a wonderful story together.  Share picture emails and talk about what you see.  You might even share a few jokes or riddles.  (The yeladim have great senses of humor!).  Most importantly, treasure the time you can spend together because as soon as you blink it may pass!

Have a wonderful summer!

Yom Ha'atzmaut!

yomh

The children of Lev Chana participated in an exciting Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration in honor of Israel's 60th birthday. Our kindergarten children spent many days learning about certain cities or places in Eretz Yisrael. After their in depth explorations they transformed their classrooms into those cities. The second floor of our building became Ben Gurion Airport, a Kibbutz, Tzefat, Yerushalaim, and Eilat. What better way to develop a love of Eretz Yisrael than actually making classrooms into Israeli cities. Every class in Lev Chana had an opportunity to go on a pretend trip to Israel and visit each of the cities. It was truly exciting, and believe it or not, exhausting as well.  The children came away having experienced a flavor of Eretz Yisrael. The kindergarteners even received a souvenir from each location.
In the afternoon, after their "trip", each grade had a festive singing and dancing chagiga to the musical accompaniment of the BaRock Orchestra. A wonderful time was had by all!

     Trip to Green Meadows Farm

On Tuesday, May 13, the four year old nursery and kindergarten classes went on their annual spring trip to Green Meadows Farm. As usual the children enjoyed seeing, feeding, petting, and interacting with the animals. The beautiful weather that day was an added bonus to what is always a fun experience for the children. We would like to thank all of the parents who chaperoned the trip. Aside from enhancing your child's day you were a great help to the teachers too!

Lag B'omer

On Friday, the eighteenth of Iyar, everyone at Lev Chana celebrated Lag B'omer. The children were treated to a barbeque lunch sponsored by Women's League. They enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, and watermelon. Each class also participated in outdoor activities including relay races, ball games, and picnics. Of course, the festivities came as a culmination of learning the stories of Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.  Many classes also spoke about the various minhagim that take place in Eretz Yisrael on Lag B'omer including bonfires and haircut celebrations in Mairon. This year Lag B'omer coincided with the reading of the last Parsha in Sefer Vayikra. In honor of finishing Sefer Vayikra the children were treated to Torah shaped cookies. It was a fun packed day!

Make reading a part of your fun and enjoyable summer!!

Art From The Heart of Lev Chana

The children had a wonderful year learning about various modern artists and artistic techniques using innovative mediums. As a culmination to our pre-school art program, the kindergarten children went on a trip to The Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan where we met docents who took the children on an abbreviated tour. The kindergarten children viewed the original artworks of several of the artists, including Van Gogh's "Starry Night", Piet Mondrian's cubism, Georges Seurat's pointillism, Jasper John's "Flag", and Picasso's "Broken Glass".  It was so exciting to see the artwork they were familiar with.
The next evening, we hosted our first annual Lev Chana Museum of Modern Art. Each of our four year old nursery and kindergarten children had at least one piece of artwork on display. The proud artists acted as the docents, describing to their guests what the artworks depicted as they toured our beautifully decorated building.
It was truly a fabulous way to end our art program for this school year!
